Matt Stokes

25 February - 3 May 2009

176 and Newcastle-based artist Matt Stokes are working together to produce a new work for exhibition at 176 in February 2009.

Stokes’s works combine film, performance, music and installation. His varied practice is akin to social anthropology and often requires a prolonged period of immersed research into a particular subculture.

His initial research at 176 and in Camden has been focussed on folk music and its legacies. The work will also explore the potential links between Newcastle, his city of residence, and 176’s situation in Camden, north London.

The works produced during Stokes’s residency are currently in development. Please visit this page for regular updates.

Matt Stokes is represented by Workplace Gallery.
