Building

176 Prince of Wales Road was built in 1867 and until the 1960s was the central Methodist Chapel for the Kings Cross and Camden area. From the 1960s until recent years it was the North London Drama Centre.

In 2005 the building was acquired by the Zabludowicz Collection , who appointed architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris www.ahmm.co.uk for the renovation into an art exhibition space. Their proven sensitivity to redeveloping unusual ‘found’ spaces, such as the Tea Building in Shoreditch, suggested them as the perfect partners for the Zabludowicz Collection . Where their intervention has been made it is visible. Many areas inside remain unchanged.

176 is not a traditional art exhibition space; it has three main rooms, two featuring double height ceilings, and eight smaller rooms all with period features. Alongside the Collection, the building will be central to each of the projects that take place at 176 together they set the framework for each of the exhibitions that will take place.
